Pearl Jam: Backspacer CD FAQ

If you are using MAC OS 10.7, your Backspacer CD will no longer launch.

Issue: Disc application does not launch on Mac 10.7 (Lion) operating system. (Figure 1)
Cause: MAC OS 10.7 no longer supports Power PC applications. The Backspacer CD, released in September 2009 employs a disc drive utility that checks to see if the disc drive is busy before it allows the main Backspacer application to launch. This utility is not compatible with Mac 10.7 (Lion) operating system.
Solution: Consumer can download a support application that is compatible with Mac 10.7 (Lion) operating system.

Are you experiencing technical issues with your Backspacer CD?

AMD or Intel 1Ghz processor or better.

B. The Audio CD is playing, but I cannot see the Backspacer bonus content.

Was your media player open when you loaded the CD? If so, there may be a conflict of resources as your media player is trying to play the audio session. Depending on your computer platform, media player, and user preference settings, the Backspacer bonus content may not auto-load. In general, if you close your media player, you will be able to launch the Backspacer bonus content by right clicking on the Backspacer icon on your desktop (Mac) or in your My Computer view (PC)

PC: the disc is programmed to automatically launch the eBridge program application when the disc is inserted. There are exceptions to this function based on the user’s system settings/preferences which cannot be overridden.

Note: When the disc is inserted, a small application will automatically run in order to detect whether the disc’s audio session is being accessed by the optical drive. If the drive is busy, then a message will appear. “Your CD drive is busy with playback or ripping. Please pause drive activity and then click “OK” to access bonus materials.”

NOTE: If iTunesTM is open, iTunesTM will prompt to import the audio from the disc and will not allow the eBridge application to auto-launch. This is expected behavior as it is a user-defined preference within the iTunesTM (see below).

Mac: the eBridge program application will mount to the desktop and will need to be launched manually. This is normal behavior for a Mac.

NOTE: If iTunesTM is open, iTunesTM will prompt to import the audio from the disc and will not allow the eBridge application to auto-launch. This is expected behavior as it is a user-defined preference within the iTunesTM (see below).
